Privacy Policy

Last updated: June 2026

CourseHub ("we", "us") is operated by the African Digital Humanities Lab. This policy explains what information we collect from learners and instructors who use the platform, why we collect it, and how it's handled.

Information we collect

  • Account information — name, email address, password (stored hashed, never in plain text), institution, and role (learner or instructor).
  • Course activity — enrollments, lesson progress, quiz attempts, submissions, and discussion/community messages you post.
  • Technical data — IP address and basic request logs, used for security (rate limiting, abuse prevention) and error diagnostics.

How we use your information

  • To create and manage your account, and to track your progress through courses.
  • To send account-related email (password resets, instructor approval notices).
  • To moderate community spaces and enforce our community guidelines.
  • To diagnose and fix technical issues.

Third-party services

We rely on a small number of third-party services to operate CourseHub:

  • Cloudinary — hosting for uploaded images and profile pictures.
  • Email delivery provider — used solely to send account-related email (password resets, approval notices).
  • AI providers (OpenAI / IONOS) — power the optional "Ask Remi" course assistant. Messages you send to Remi may be processed by these providers to generate a response.

None of these providers are permitted to use your data for advertising, and we do not sell personal data to anyone.

Data retention

We retain your account and course data for as long as your account is active. You may request deletion of your account and associated personal data at any time by contacting us (see below).

Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, export, or delete your personal data. To exercise any of these rights, contact us using the details below.
